Principles – Justice (2) – 31/8/2013

We dealt with justice and its definition. We discussed the religious explanation of it as being one of God’s names in Islam and Christianity and the four virtues that the philosophers called for in the past.
We also recited a story about a woman who was a waver and went to the city to sell her products yet a bird snatched her bag.
While she was talking, 10 men came. Each one of them offered the wise man 100 pounds and they asked him to offer the money to those who deserve it. The wise man wondered about the reason. They answered that they were in the middle of the sea and their ship was about to sink. While they were fixing the ship, suddenly a bird threw at them a bag full of cloths. They used the cloths to fix the ship and thankfully they were saved and they vowed to give the poor 1000 pounds. The wise man looked at the woman asking her if she was still doubting God’s justice, then he gave her the money asking her to buy food for her children.

This story reminds us of Mordecai who had told Esther of Bigthana and Teresh, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. The matter was known to the king and he ordered to put them to death. Yet, Mordecai’s good deed remained unknown to the king till one day the king asked to read the book of the records of the chronicles and decided to reward Mordecai and he asked Haman to honor Mordecai greatly. However, Haman was planning to crucify Mordecai and when the king knew that he decided to crucify Mordecai on the same cross. That is God’s Justice. Justice includes many elements: Man, his rights and his relations with others. Any successful social system is built on justice. “Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness”
Society promotes if justice is applied and any matter that violated that justice should be abolished. Respecting others’ rights and believing that people are all equal is the core of justice. A writer once said that it is not permissible to let some people lose their freedom for the sake of others. Members of any society should enjoy the same rights and do the same duties. It is said that your freedom is limited by that of others.
I read a story about two friends who grew together. Yet, one of them grew up to be a judge and the other was a prey for gambling and excessive drinking till he lost his job.
One day the police arrested him and to his astonishment, the judge was his friend. Their memories together passed before his eyes….to be continued
