The funeral prayers of deceased Counselor Nabil Merhem, member of the General Denominational Council was held on Friday, attended by a number of bishops, priests and loved ones of the deceased, as well as a large number of state officials.
His Grace Bishop Ermia [Jeremiah] delivered a eulogy, saying: “In the name of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, who is currently in Holland and has delegated His Grace Bishop Daniel, and on behalf of all the priests present here today, and the Holy Synod, we remember the departed Counselor Nabil Merhem.” His Grace shed light on the deceased’s life, in which he stated:
“He was born on 7/7/1939, graduated with a Bachelor of Law in 1962 from Cairo University, was appointed at the State Council, gradually rising up the judicial ladder, to reach the post of head of the State Council in 2008. He earned the Republic’s First Degree Trophy.
On a Church level, since 1996 till now, he had been member of the General Denominational Council and was member of the 18 Committee, charged with handling papal nominations.
We thank the President Abd Al-Fattah Al-Seesy who sent a delegate, Major Hassan Al-Shafeï to extend condolences, as we thank His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, who sent on his behalf His Grace Bishop Daniel, as His Holiness is currently on an overseas trip.
