The Egyptian Family House organized its first conference entitled “Together against Terrorism” under the patronage of the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark.
In his opening speech, His Eminence, Bishop Ermia, Assistant Secretary General of the Egyptian Family House, stressed that terrorism will push the world into a dark tunnel. It is a danger that carries only the signs of human destruction, and therefore we must unite against violence, intolerance and terrorism in all its forms.
He also pointed out that the first steps of the war on terrorism is to realize that its scourge will not befall on it alone. Everyone will suffer from it. It is also necessary to emphasize the lofty religious concepts that are common in religions and instill the concepts of mercy, tolerance and the culture of acceptance of the other. We will continue to work together to spread peace. We have important role to spread real peace which requires dialogue and a deep understanding of others. He stressed that instilling the concept of pluralism and co-existence with the other to build our homeland will not be achieved by words, but with hard work, in order to consolidate that thought which seeks to promote societies and nations and to provide the essence of religions that respects human humanity with deeds and work that prove our feet in our quest for peace.
Dr. Hamdy Zaqzouq, Secretary of the Egyptian Family House, said in his speech two important elements in the face of terrorism, namely, sound religious education in the media, advocacy and educational institutions because terrorism is based on the ignorance of the majority of people by the true teachings of religion, and by teaching our children critical thinking, by revealing the facts of religion, our generations can be protected from brainwashing and attraction to the brilliant slogans raised by radical thought.
