On Saturday, November, 24, 2018, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, headed the prayers of ordaining five new bishops and consecrating two bishops for the Diocese of Damietta, Kafr al Sheikh and the Monastery of St. Demiana and the Diocese of Tima, with the attendance of a large group of the fathers of the Holy Synod, priests, monks and the congregation at the Great Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbasiya.
During the ordination prayers which are to be continued tomorrow by the Holy Mass, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II wished the attendees a blessed Nativity fasting which will begin tomorrow, he also congratulated the ordained father bishops, pointing out that since the past November, 6 bishops passed away, they are Bishop Fam, Bishop Epiphanius, Bishop Antonius, Bishop Boktor, Bishop Bishoy and Bishop Arsanius. He declared that six bishops will be promoted to the metropolitan’s rank.
His Holiness the Pope said that Bishop Ishaq, the General Bishop of Al Fayoum will be consecrated over the Diocese of Tima and its dependents, he became a monk in 1998, and became a General Bishop of Al Fayoum with Bishop Abram in 2014. Beforehand, he had served for a while in United Arab Emirates, the father priests of Tima recommended him to be their bishop.
His Holiness added that Bishop Marcos, the Bishop of Hadayek al Quba will be consecrated over the Diocese of Damietta, Kafr al Sheikh and the Monastery of St. Demiana. He is one of the monks of Martyr St. Mina’s Monastery at Marriot, became a monk in 1997 and was ordained a general bishop in 2014.
He clarified that the monk Archpriest Morcos al Abnoubi will be ordained a bishop of Al Wadi al Gadid and al Wahat, bearing the name of Bishop Arsnaious, he is a monk of St. Mina’s hanging monastery at Abnoub Mountain, he entered the monastery in 2004, became a monk in 2006 and has been the Secretary of the Monastery until this time.
Archpriest Sawiris Ava Mina will be ordained a general bishop of some new monasteries which lack supervision, he will be ordained with the same name; Bishop Sawiris, he became a monk in 1984 at St. Mina’s Monastery at Marriot.
He continued to announce that monk Archpriest Boles al Muharraqi will be ordained a general bishop of Cairo, named as Bishop Mikhael, he became a monk in 2003 at St. Mary’s Monastery at Muharraq. He was in charge of the monastery’s buildings because he had been an engineer. Two years ago, he began his ministry in the Bishopric of General Services, and took the charge of the training and disabled programs.
Besides, Archpriest Bishoy Ava Mousa will be ordained. He belongs to the Monastery of St. Moses in Texas, USA, located in the Diocese of South America which includes a number of states. He is a holder of Bachelor’s Degree of Psychology and Sociology in America, he became a monk in 2009. He has offered many services at the monastery and will be named Bishop Basil, an assistant of Bishop Youssef.
This is in addition to the ordination of Archpriest Maximos Ava Mousa as a bishop named Gregory, to act as an assistant to Bishop Youssef too due to the expansion of the diocese. He is a holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Electricity Engineering in Montreal, Canada, he became a monk in 2011.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros added that the rituals are to be concluded with the bishops reading the vows in front of all the attendees. Afterwards, prayers are reiterated over the priestly garments, which will be crossed by all the fathers of the Holy Synod, reminding that the ordination prayers are the first to be held in the Cathedral of Abbasiya after its restoration and consecration, and that during the past years, similar prayers were held at the St. Mark’s Cathedral in Clot Bek and St. Mary’s Church at Zaitoun.
