Principles – Commitment (4) – Commitment as a Lifestyle – 8/11/2014

We tackled in the previous article the issue of commitment and how each one of us is committed toward his brethrens in humanity and that a positive person would do all he can for the sake of the general interest.
Practicing commitment due to stress or work responsibilities is not our issue; we are tackling the issue of true commitment out of genuineness and sincerity of a person. It is said that a true friend is the one who keeps your friendship during your conflicts not your moment of agreement.
A committed person will always cling to his values and principles no matter how hard the conditions are. Some may adhere to principles at their joyous times only. However, commitment means clinging to values all the time and under all conditions, respecting others’ rights and appreciating humanity. Commitment and adherence to values is a life journey that never ceases to exist, but rather it develops and asserts itself during various incidents.
The more committed a person is, the more responsibilities he would be able to hold and the more achievements he would make. Patiently overcoming difficulties and hard working are the vehicles of achieving what beyond dreams. How wonderful the saying, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” and “Tell me what you’re committed to, and I’ll tell you what you’ll be in 20 years”. Rick Warren
If we take a quick glance at the life of great people, we would discover that commitment was their starting point to inventions and discoveries. As the saying goes, the road to success is through the simple adherence to daily routine.
Adherence to discipline needs an intellectual convection that one should exert efforts and give up some rest to achieve his goals. Picturing your goals when they are coming true is what makes you keep going. Think about what would have happened if the scientists had stopped their toiling to find out new inventions. They were always motivated by an image in their mind whether they wanted it to happen or a negative thing in the society they wanted to uproot.
For Instance, William Morton offered the world a great service when he invented an American dentist who first publicly demonstrated the use of inhaled ether as a surgical anesthetic and he was able to alleviate the pain of surgeries that presented a great torture before his invention. It was written on his statue before his grave that “William Morton, the discoverer that the inhaling of Ether causes insensibility to pain. First proved to the world at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, October, 1846,” Dr. Morton’s deed, though not his name, is thus honored.”
He kept the image of people in pain before his eyes thus h decided to be committed to end that image forever and he did.
Life is a journey, what distinguishes it is the gleam of light beaming at the world or others’ lives. A committed person represents that gleam.
