On Life (154) – «A New Beginning» – December 31, 2016

He sneaked to his balcony that was located on a mountain foot. The top was covered with snow, and the sky full of stars. His mind started to wander. A new year will start within a few minutes, and he will celebrate it with his friends. In fact, the New Year Eve meant nothing to him save some noisy celebration which he had thought the happiness he sought! Yet, this happiness would always fade and vanish. So, he decided to make this year a landmark, a beginning.

In the previous two articles, we spoke of the power of “tolerance” and that of “endurance”, and how both prod man toward progress and success. Yet, as we approach a new year, let us tackle the “power of the beginning”. If man decides to begin anew, he is inspired with a great strength that affects all his actions. Yet, these actions require the same strength until they are accomplished. True beginnings last and flourish, thus leading man to deeper ones. In fact, each end gives rise to a new beginning.

Whoever decides to start anew certainly possesses a lot of strength: for he acknowledges the reality that he dislikes, realizing that he needs a change. Yet, the problem has to do with those who cannot face themselves and admit that they trod a wrong path. Instead, they justify their deeds and choices deeming them the best! However, admitting one’s mistakes before oneself requires bravery and strength.

Also, whoever starts anew is strong enough to destroy fear, despair, or dreading the deprivation from future happiness. Indeed, fearing failure is one of the obstacles that hinder the new beginning. For instance, whoever decides to love others is hindered by the thought that it is synonymous to weakness, and that the world would not understand it! Also, whoever decides to work honestly is mired by the myth of tiredness. A sinner who decides to repent is stuck by dreading the deprivation of worldly joy. Hence, whoever starts anew is truly strong.

As a new year begins, one should ask himself if it requires that he start anew in any field, such as work, study, family, spiritual life, social relationships, or his role toward his country. Be honest with yourself as you fetch an answer. It is your life, and you are answerable to God for it.
All the best in the New Year!
