His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, has paid a visit to the Abbey of St. Maurice in the Swiss city of St. Maurice, where the abbot took His Holiness on a tour of the abbey. His Holiness raised incense before the relics of St. Maurice, and the Theban battalion, and the relics of the Emperor who built the abbey as a namesake of St. Maurice. St. Maurice is a coptic saint, who led the Theban battalion, along with St. Verena, with whom he was martyred amidst others in this city, which was named after the commander St. Maurice. His Holiness Pope Tawadros II officiated Holy Mass on Tuesday at the abbey. Also participating in Mass was His Grace Bishop Luke, the General Bishop of Southern France, and His Grace Bishop Kyrillos [Cyril], Bishop of Milan, with a number of priests of the churches of Switzerland and neighboring European countries, a chorus of Coptic Orthodox deacons, and a large congregation of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Switzerland.
