Many happy returns on the New Year which is a few hours away! We hope God bring a peaceful year unto Egypt and the Middle East, especially Syria, Iraq, Libya, and the whole world.
Each New Year brings joy: for it motivates man to move forward and correct his paths. To achieve this, man should cast a glimpse on the previous year, not to ponder over his memories, but to take a lesson from them, thus changing himself and the world around him.
Some people think that a new year is but one step towards aging. Yet, grey hairs are no sign for aging. Also, aging is not measured by days. Rather, it the measured by the degree of despair that afflicts the heart, the stagnation that alights upon the mind, and the light that it is put out from one’s life. Here, it is interesting to recount a true story. It came to pass that as a man was celebrating his sixtieth birthday, he started telling his friends about his plans for the coming ten years. On his seventieth birthday, and to his friends’ surprise, he had already implemented his plans. On his eightieth birthday, he amazed the attendees by the plans he set for the ten forthcoming years! Such people never age, for they appreciate the value of every moment which God grants them. They use their lives in progress and success, which is one of the secrets of greatness. So, make the New Year full of new beginnings.
A New Vision
The New Year should provide you with a new vision of your goals. Should you not have such a vision, sit to yourself and start thinking of achievable goals and, even more, start moving toward them without hesitation. Believe in your goals that you might seek the means to achieve them. Do not despair lest you fail: for failure starts from within not from without. Achieving your goals requires toil, patience, and perseverance.
The brilliant Thomas Addison had more than 1300 patents! He commented on his success, saying that his success is ascribed to 1% intelligence and 99% toil and perseverance. Some people give up their goals and dreams due to encountering obstacles and challenges, while others overcome them and move forward. So, see which type you belong to.
A New “You”
The New Year should change you from within. You should gain more knowledge and adeptness in dealing with people. The older you get, the more aware you become that you have two hands: one that helps you, and one you help others with. You do not live alone, or in a circle of supporters who always agree with you. Rather, you should positively interact with people. Be open-minded and kind-hearted enough as to deal with them effectively. This does not mean that you become gullible or lose your free will. Gandhi believes that difference in opinion should not lead to animosity, otherwise one become the other’s worst foe. Know others. Benefit by the variety of their characters and mentalities. Thus, you will discover lots of beautiful things about them. You might as well take some great people for role models, which will enrich your life, the society’s, and make them grow spontaneously.
A New View of Work
The New Year should bring about a new view of your work. Work is the path toward achieving new goals. It inspires you with creative ideas. Be sure that the more you work, the more you achieve. You shall realize your potential to the maximum. As you work faithfully and diligently, you acquire new skills that enable you to succeed. Some people prefer rest to work. Yet, this makes their lives meaningless. They age and waste their lives in idleness.
American industry magnet John Rockefeller believes that patience and perseverance are the ingredients of success. Nevertheless, successful people did not achieve their goals easily; they went through a lot of pains and hardships. Yet, they ended up winning the world’s respect, like Helen Keller, Thomas Addison, and Albert Einstein.
Also, no matter how simple your job is, it is never trivial. Should you do it with love and dedication, you will be appreciated by everybody, for people will feel you are unique.
As we speak of work, we should not forget the most important mission entrusted to us: our duty toward Egypt. We should strive to accomplish this mission with a new spirit and a creative way of working. We should work with patience, perseverance and sacrifice. We should neither slow down nor despair, for in like manner the previous year had witnessed the launching of great projects, the new one is to witness more success and stability. We should strive to sustain Egypt’s peace, stability and prosperity. May God protect Egypt and her leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who works constantly to retrieve her Arab and international position and preserve her land and people. May God grant her prosperity and … Stories never end in Beautiful Egypt.
