Three Copts at Al-Teeba village affiliated to the Samalout county, North of the province of Menya [Upper Egypt], as sectarian assaults are renewed between the village’s Mulsims and Copts. Raymond Ramses, lawyer, stated, “Sectarian strife was renewed viciously between Copts and Muslims of the Al-Teeba village, as a result of which three Copts were injured, namely Nadia Andrawes Basta, 45, housewife, and Munira Saleeb Saad, 40, housewife, both sustaining varied bruises all over their bodies, as well as Shafiq Thabet Shehata, after the Muslim family renewed their assault over the Coptic family.
A brawl had taken place last Friday between the two families, due to an attempt of a vehicle, owned by a Copt, and loaded with sand to pass by another car owned by a Muslim into which it crashed, which led to the situation igniting, with clashes on both sides. Ramses added that the first incident had been completely resolved in the police station, but sadly, only via the normal means to which security forces resort, which is reconciliation meetings, to which both sides were compelled. Proof of this lies in the fact the Muslim party lay in ambush for the Christian party, the fight renewed again between both parties, on a larger scale, leading to the heavy intervention of security forces to control the security situation, avoiding its re-escalation. A number of people on both sides were arrested, both sides currently being presented before the Public Prosecutor.
