Today, Saturday, December 1st, 2018, the rituals of consecrating His Grace Bishop Marcos over the Diocese of Damietta, Kafr al Sheikh and St. Demiana’s Monastery at Al Barari began, making him the successor of the reposed Bishop Bishoy who passed away in early October.
His Grace Bishop Marcos visited the tomb of the reposed Bishop Bishoy before entering the church, accompanied by a large number of father metropolitans and bishops, the members of the Holy Synod, a body of the father priests and the congregation.
Al Daqahliyah’s Governor, Kamal Sharoubim, participated in the reception ceremony of His Grace Bishop Marcos which occurs simultaneously with his consecration, the governor is accompanied by Engineer Governor Mokhtar al Kholy, the General Secretary of the Governorate, and Major General Ahmed Raafat, the Assistant General Secretary. They were received by Archpriest Dioskoros Shehata, the cellarer of the monastery, in the presence of members of the Holy Synod.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, consecrated His Grace Bishop Marcos, the General Bishop of Hadayek al Quba, as a bishop of the Diocese of Damietta, Kafr al Sheikh, Al Barari and St. Demiana’s Monastery, succeeding the reposed Bishop Bishoy, who passed away in early October due to a sudden heart attack.
His Grace Bishop Marcos became a monk in 1997, was ordained a bishop in 2014, he served in Hadayek al Quba, Cairo and was selected by Pope Tawadros, with the consent of the Priests’ Council of Kafr al Sheikh, Damietta, Al Barari and St. Demiana’s Monastery.
