Parliamentary Committee end “Almahadiat” strife in Luxor

Dr. Hamada al-Ammari, head of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives, MP’s ElTeri Abdo Hassan and Mohammed Yass, a committee of members of parliament and members of the reconciliation committee in Luxor, sponsored by the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, succeeded in ending the strife between Muslims and Christians, following rumors of the disappearance of a Coptic girl in the village, and her conversion to Islam.

The two sides met in a broad reconciliation session in Al-Mahadiat, and reached an agreement and reconciliation that ended with everyone eating food together.

The reconciliation terms included the formation of a committee of the village’s Muslims to protect the houses of Copts, the release of convicted Muslims after clashes with police, formation of a committee of wise men to deal with the seditionists in the village.

Coptic Orthodox Church diocese in Luxor, head by Anba Yusab, Bishop of Luxor, thanked the Governor Mohammed Badr and Major General Essam Al-Hamli, Director of Security, for their efforts in containing the Mahadiat strife.
