Patriarch Mar Raphael Sako of the Babel Caledonians in Iraq directed a call to the entire world as follows: “Everybody knowns Iraqi Christians, along with other minorities, have received a harsh lethal blow to their lives and existence: More than 100,000 Christians have been evicted by humiliating force, and their belongings and money stolen, homes usurped, with only one accusation, that they are Christians. I have visited many refugee centers in the provinces of Irbil and Dahook, and heard unimaginable things.”
He pointed out that since 6th August till now, there’s been no solution close to the ground, on the contrary, there’s been continuing financing and arming on a regular basis to the militants, and whoever is masterminding and implementing the scene is working powerfully, despite what we’re living in terms of organized cleansing, the world’s conscience has moved only slightly. He added: “The international society – especially USA and the EU – bears the moral and historical responsibility for what’s happening, for till this hour no real project has been considered to relieve the crisis, as though these people are not of the human race. Likewise, the Islamic community has not spoken as we expected regarding the barbaric acts in the name of religion against the lives and freedom of Christians, although they have done many favors, participating and striving for the homeland, for Arabian identity, both language and history, and Islamic civilization.”
He pointed out that the events unfolding are of immense “country-sized” proportions, so this matter requires urgent and effective international endorsement and support of the people who have a good will to save this original portion of this earthquake, knowing that silence and neglect encourage ISIS and orthodox Islamists to commit further tragedies.
