Mother of “Luxor girl”: My daughter did not convert her religion and all were said are rumors

Ahlam Girgis, mother of girl known as Luxor girl, denied that her daughter converted to Islam at the hands of a 19-year-old boy named “Ibrahim Mohamed” from her village “al-Muhaydat” after a romantic relationship.

The mother said to «ElBawaba», she gave her daughter religion and good manner, which is known about the family for decades in the village, pointing out that «Amira» is one of the best students, and came first in the province for several times.

Ahlam added that the young man Ibrahim, who claims to have a relationship with her daughter, got her phone number from one of her colleagues. He did not met her once. He spoke to her on the phone more than once, and Amira rejected his calls, so he threatened her through text messages, which pushed her to answer him a couple of times in an attempt to calm him and avoid trouble with him or his family.

She said that Ibrahim appeared to be a young man who was reckless. After despairing of communicating with her daughter, he began to spread rumors that she had a romantic relationship with him, and she converted from Christianity to Islam, and incited the villagers over the past weeks against the family and spread rumors that we detained our daughter at home once we learn about her conversion to Islam, which is not true.

His goal was stir up village simple people against them, and he succeeded, explaining “We were surprised by thousands of people trying to break into our house and kidnap Amira, especially that militants spread rumors using social media to stir up inhabitants of neighboring villages, and succeeded to incite three other villages” she said.

“My daughter is fine now, she is in Cairo, and she continues her lessons to ensure that she continues to excel in high school. I say to those who repeat the rumors about her conversion to Islam, do you have one evidence?”
