Funeral service of Military engineer behind destruction of Israel’s Bar Lev line

Sunday, June 24, 2018 – The Coptic Orthodox Church held the funeral service of Major General Baki Zaky Yousef at St. Mark Cleopatra Church, headed by Their Eminences Anba Ermia, General Bishop and head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, Anba Moussa, Bishop of Youth and Anba Eklimandos, Bishop of Nasr City and Ezbet el-Hagana. And the body was buried in St. Barbara Monastery tombs in Heliopolis.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff sent representatives to the funeral, while Eng. Essam Sharaf, former Prime Minister, Eng. Hany Dahi, Head of Engineers synod, Eng. Tarek Al Nabarawi, former head of Engineers synod, Major General Hisham Abousna, head of Cairo Engineers synod, public figures and MPs attended the funeral.

HG Anba Ermia thanked the President, pointing that Egypt has lost a great national stature and a devoted son of the armed forces. Egypt has benefited from his knowledge, his honesty and his great abilities.

HG Anba Moussa said: “We bid farewell today to a beloved brother whom we closely knew. He was one of the keys to the victory of the 6th of October War, as well as he was trusted by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser and President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. He never assigned this achievement to himself but to the Egyptian Army “Protector of Egypt”», pointing out that he contributed to the construction of the High Dam of Aswan and the destruction the Bar Lev line, which Israel bragged about.

On the other hand, the House of Representatives mourned the  hero of the 6th of October war, and the MPs took a moment of silence to pay tribute for the late soldier. Dr. Ali Abdel-Aal, House of Representatives speaker, said that “Baki” was the one who came up with the idea to destroy the Israeli Bar Lev Line defenses during 1973 war using water.

It is worth mentioning that the Coptic Church mourned Maj. Gen. Baki Zaki, who passed away on Saturday, describing him as one of Egypt’s brave heroes, and the one who came up with the idea to destroy the Israeli Bar Lev Line, which was then a symbol of the superiority of the enemy and its control on the eastern bank of the Suez Canal to open the way for the brave Egyptian forces to cross to the other bank.
