A committee in each province formed to consider the situation of unlicensed churches

Father Rafiq Greish spokesman of the Catholic Church in Egypt confirmed that the House of Representatives soon will discuss the church unified draft law.

He pointed out, in his remarks, that the law will solve many problems facing the construction of churches, as there is a special article for already built churches, that do not have an official license, because it has verbal approvals.

Greish said a committee will be formed in each province including a judge of the State Council, a judge from Elementary court, secretary of the Governor, the Director of Engineering Authority in the province, to look into the cases of unlicensed churches, rationing it’s situation based on a request from the bishop, or pastor, pointing out that law consists of 13 articles, the first devoted to adjust concepts which is definitions of church, altar and nave.

From her part, Dr. Suzy Nashed, a member of the House of Representatives, said that “House of Representatives” will discuss the building of churches law during the current session course as it’s a stipulated Constitutional requirement, pointing out that the churches and the government did not reach full consensus on the draft law, but there is an agreement over 90%.
